3-2-1 Smoked Ribs Recipe

(Fall-Off-the-Bone Perfection)

When it comes to BBQ, ribs are where flavor meets fire.

At American Flame BBQ Co., we don’t cut corners—we build flavor layer by layer. This 3-2-1 ribs method is the gold standard for tender, juicy, fall-off-the-bone ribs every time.

If you’ve been searching for the best smoked ribs recipe, this is it.

What is the 3-2-1 Method?

The 3-2-1 method is simple:

·        3 hours smoking

·        2 hours wrapped (braising)

·        1 hour saucing and finishing

This technique creates ribs that are:

·        Tender

·        Juicy

·        Packed with smoke flavor

Ingredients

2 racks baby back ribs

2 tbsp sweet BBQ rub

1 cup apple cider

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

2 tbsp salted butter

1/2 cup American Flame BBQ Original Gourmet Sauce (internal link)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Ribs

·        Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs

·        Season both sides generously with BBQ rub

·        Start with the bone side first

Step 2: Smoke (3 Hours)

·        Preheat smoker to 225°F (indirect heat)

·        Use a hardwood like oak or hickory

·        Place ribs on smoker and cook for 3 hours

·        Goal: Build smoke flavor and bark

Step 3: Wrap & Braise (2 Hours)

Place ribs on foil (bone side up)

Add:

·        Brown sugar

·        Butter (cut into pads)

·        Apple cider

·        Seal tightly in foil

·        Return to smoker at ~225–250°F for 2 hours

This step makes the ribs incredibly tender.

Step 4: Sauce & Finish (1 Hour)

·        Remove ribs from foil

·        Place back on grill (bone side down)

·        Brush with American Flame BBQ Sauce

·        Cook for 1 more hour until sauce is sticky and set
